John has been practicing law since 1997. He has tried cases as first and second chair both in courts and arbitration proceedings. He is experienced in preparing cases for alternative dispute resolution so that his clients can settle cases from a position of strength when it is appropriate to do so.
John has experience in a wide range of civil matters. These include landlord-tenant disputes, construction, personal injury, Jones Act, contract disputes, mortgage lending, commercial collections, premises liability, and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. He also has extensive experience in family law matters, including divorce, property division, and child custody and child support disputes. His work in the Family Courts includes high net worth individuals and the division of closely held businesses. His experience also covers high conflict divorce matters and child custody disputes involving allegations of abuse and family violence. In fact, he has successfully defended allegations of child abuse, eventually obtaining primary custody of a child for the falsely accused parent.
John was the second chair lawyer in a matter obtaining a plaintiff’s multi-million dollar verdict in litigation concerning the construction of a peak-demand power plant. He was also lead counsel in obtaining dismissal of contract claims for a national coal company on jurisdictional grounds in federal court.
John is a native Texan. After graduating from Humble High School, he attended Rice University and graduated having completed the requirements for three bachelor’s degrees. He worked in commercial banking for almost ten years before attending law school at the University of Houston. His time in banking gave him valuable insight into financial matters and the business of the clients he now represents. He graduated with high honors from the University of Houston Law Center. He went to work for a large regional (now a national) law firm, where he practiced until forming his own firm. He then worked at smaller firm before joining Johnson DeLuca Kurisky & Gould P.C. in 2023.
